Episode 210: The Idea Doesn’t Matter (Here’s What Actually Gets You Paid)

by | Sep 4, 2025 | 0 comments

Everyone thinks the “big idea” is the secret to starting a business. The million-dollar app, the product no one’s ever seen before, the magic invention.

The idea doesn’t matter.

I’ve seen too many people sit for years waiting on the perfect business idea — while others with average, even boring ideas pass them by and build something real.

Why the Idea Doesn’t Matter

  1. Execution beats ideas every time.
The world is full of people with brilliant ideas who never act. What separates a “dreamer” from an entrepreneur is action.
  2. Customers define the business.
A business isn’t about your cleverness. It’s about solving someone else’s problem. The market decides what’s valuable, not your imagination.
  3. Action creates clarity.
You don’t need a lightning-bolt idea. You need movement. Test, learn, and adjust. That’s how real businesses are built.

My Story

When I first stepped into business, I thought I needed something groundbreaking. But most of what I’ve done — rental real estate, teaching high-school math, consulting, software development — wasn’t unique. What mattered was finding people who had a problem and showing them I could solve it.

Every time, the “idea” took a back seat to simply talking with people, offering a solution, and getting paid.

One thing I am sure of – THERE ARE NO UNIQUE IDEAS!!!

What To Do Instead of Waiting for the Perfect Idea

  • Write down 3 skills/experiences you have.
  • Share it with 5-10 people. Get feedback. Look for EMOTIONAL connection to the idea or distance. (People that would care not just man on the street)
  • Pick the one idea that wins.
  • Create a price plan – pay me X and I will solve Y
  • Start putting this in front of customers. TODAY
  • Repeat daily with X customer per day.

That’s it. No complicated plan. No perfect idea. Just start.

Final Word

Stop waiting for the “perfect idea.” It doesn’t exist. What matters is solving problems and getting paid to do it.
