Success Hinges on Responsiblity

Successful people are not victims – they take responsibility for their lives

Steven Covey, author of The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, notes that the word responsibility is a combination of the word RESPONSE and the word ABILITY. In other words, you have the ability to respond to any event in a manner of YOUR choosing. Think about it. When was the last time someone pulled out in front of you on the way to work when you were in a rush? The initial response is fear with action that resulted in your hitting the brakes and taking action to avoid hitting the other driver. But then what happened? Did you fume about it all the way to work? Did you go to work still mad at what that idiot did? So often we do. We let other events hit us and control us.

These are just some of the ideas Dale Callahan talks about in his new book “Company of One”, due out this Fall.
